As the largest hotel in the German- Danish border region, and now Sønderborg’s latest prominent landmark, the Alsik has been constructed in the former industrial port area, on the banks of the Alssund strait and the Flensburg Fjord. During the course of Sønderborg’s redevelopment programme, the award winning, Canadian architect, Frank O. Gehry created a masterplan in 2008 for the rebuilding of the harbour complex, an integral part of which was to be an unique hotel: the Alsik. The renowned Copenhagen firm, Henning Larsen Architects, designed the 70 metres high building. This includes an observation deck at 64 metres above sea level. With its 24,800 square metres and 19 floors, new standards in the region were established.
This touristic highlight has enriched the landscape of southern Denmark. The Alsik’s viewing platform is the link between the 16th and 17th floor. At a height of 64 metres, a 360-degree-panorama gallery affords guests unforgettable views over the idyllic landscape of the Flensburg Fjord. An unique experience.
